Working as the 3D Art Lead for this VR installation, I leveraged traditional VFX pipelines against this realtime project. I spent several months creating levels in Unreal’s VR Editor, thoroughly enjoying the experience of world-building from inside VR space.
The installation was embedded as a surprise in the middle of a fully themed party in Mexico City. Guests were plucked from the crowd and taken through a secret doorway, where they were onboarded by docents and led into the space. Physical stones and flowers mimicked the placement of those in the experience, and heat lamps and wind machines were triggered during the journey to give users the impression of exploring the Mexican landscape. Using a leap motion sensor mounted to the Vive kit, guests could see their hands and interact with the world around them, leading overall to a deeply immersive experience.
